A bibliography lists every source that was used during research, whether it was cited directly in the paper or not. A works cited page lists only those sources that are actually referenced in the text.
While you will find "works cited" used in MLA style, "bibliography" is used in Chicago style and may also appear in documents written using APA format. If your instructor asks for a bibliography, all sources you consulted should be included. If they ask for a works cited page, you should list only those sources that have corresponding in-text citations. Our guide on how to cite a letter in APA, MLA, and Chicago style covers the formatting differences. Quetext's Citation Generator supports all three styles and builds your list automatically.
