What does a plagiarism report show?

A plagiarism report shows an overall similarity score (usually as a percentage), a breakdown of which passages in your document match existing sources, and links or references to those sources. Matched text is typically color-coded by match type—exact matches, near matches, and paraphrased content may each appear in different colors.

A good report also indicates whether matched content is properly cited, allowing you to distinguish between acceptable quotations and uncredited borrowing. The score alone is not a verdict—a 15% similarity score made up entirely of correctly cited quotes is not plagiarism. Always read the full report, not just the number.
