Under the hood

How DeepSearch™ works in Google Docs

Every scan you run in Google Docs goes through the same three-step process that powers Quetext’s full plagiarism checker and AI Content Detector.

Explore our technology →
  1. Contextual Analysis

Looks beyond individual words to the context of phrases, catching plagiarism even when wording has been rearranged or lightly edited.

  2. Fuzzy Matching

Flags synonym swaps, sentence restructuring and patchwork plagiarism that simpler tools miss.

  3. Conditional Scoring

Weights each flagged passage against your overall score for a nuanced percentage, not a simple pass/fail.

Google Docs AI detector and plagiarism checker FAQ

Does Google Docs have a built-in plagiarism checker?

No. Google Docs doesn't include a built-in plagiarism checker or AI detector. Google Workspace for Education offers originality reports for assignments in Google Classroom, but not for documents outside Classroom. The Quetext add-on adds plagiarism and AI checks to any Google Doc.

How do I check for plagiarism in Google Docs?

Install the Quetext add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace, open your document and choose Extensions › Quetext. Scan the full document or a selected passage and get a color-coded report in the side panel within seconds.

How do I add Quetext to Google Docs?

Open the Quetext listing on the Google Workspace Marketplace and click Install, or search “Quetext” from Extensions › Add-ons › Get add-ons in Google Docs. Approve the permissions, then log in or create a free Quetext account.

Can my school install Quetext for all teachers?

Yes. A Google Workspace admin can use Admin install in the Google Admin console to add Quetext for the whole organization or for selected organizational units. For multi-user plans, see Quetext for Education.

Is the Quetext Google Docs add-on free?

Yes. The add-on is free to install, and the free plan lets you check up to 1,000 words per feature. Paid plans unlock higher limits, bulk uploads and downloadable reports.

How do I check for AI in Google Docs?

Install the Quetext add-on, open your document and choose Extensions › Quetext, then check for AI content. Quetext's Google Docs AI detector runs alongside the plagiarism check. You get an AI Score and flagged sections for text that looks like it came from ChatGPT, Gemini or other AI models.

Do I need a Quetext account to use the add-on?

Yes. An account keeps your reports secure and lets you track them. Log in with your existing details or create a free account in seconds. Your plan and reports are the same across the add-on, browser extensions and quetext.com.

How is the add-on different from the Chrome extension?

Both use the same DeepSearch™ engine, AI detector and database. The add-on lives inside Google Docs and can scan your whole document from the side panel; the browser extensions check highlighted text on any webpage.

How accurate is the add-on compared with quetext.com?

It is just as accurate. It uses the same DeepSearch™ technology (Contextual Analysis, Fuzzy Matching and Conditional Scoring) and scans billions of web pages, over 20 million books and more than 1 million academic journals. Only the way you submit text changes.

Which languages does the Google Docs add-on support?

English (US, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa) plus French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Romanian, Dutch, Turkish, Vietnamese and Indonesian.
