Citations can be placed directly in the body of your document using both parenthetical and narrative citation styles. Parenthetical citation styles use Surname, year as the format and narrative citation styles use Surname (year) format in APA. In MLA, you will cite a source as a Surname page. All in-text citations must have a corresponding reference list entry. To generate an in-text reference:
- Identify the source: Author or title
- Add page/year: Based on citation style
- Insert in text: Place within parentheses
